                                   Connected Hearts June 2009 Minutes

 

1.       We received a donation for $1786 from Secunda.  Many thanks!!

2.       The Commander of the local American Legion Riders, Mr. Mudd, was in attendance with his daughter, Macae and stated that their group will be having a fund raiser breakfast on Jul 11th from 0700- 1000 at the American Legion Hall. ($5 donations).  He asked if any of our team members could attend.  Cheryl, Kevin, Tony and Penny said they would.  If anyone else is interested, please show up.  Help spread the word of this fundraiser.

3.       Artist Dennis Yates held a fundraiser for CH and he raised $350 with a painting of Lions Lake.

4.       Rotary Club gave a donation of $2,000, and Penny accepted the check for at the Rotary breakfast for CH.  Also the Schools raised close to $2000 for crazy hat, sunglasses, etc. day.  Awesome job!

5.       The Grand Opening of Carmike Theatres is tentatively scheduled for Jul 14th at 6:00 PM.  Tickets will be available at Monetti’s or Carmike Theatres (CT) for $25.   The event will include catering from Monettis, beer, wine free soft drinks, popcorn and a movie.  100 tickets will be given to CT for advertisement purposes.  Kevin volunteered to purchase salmon colored tickets that will be used for sale.  We will include the person’s name and phone number on one of the detached tickets in the event the date is changed.  Thanks Kevin.  The board agreed to be responsible for 10 tickets each.  If they are not sold, each member will be responsible for the amount.

6.       Here are some stories that were passed to us from the social workers on what CH is doing to make a positive difference in the lives of needy kids:  We sent a needy child to a sports camp, we helped a homeless family get a phone, paid transportation costs for a medical appointment in KC, paid a water bill, paid for pest control for a needy family, paid student insurance, provided transportation for a child’s surgery to Children’s Mercy Hospital.

7.       Penny Monetti, Founder and Current President of CH expressed her appreciation for all that our team continues to do to help.   She also announced that she will step down as President in August.  She has remained in the president’s position for 6 months beyond the one year term, but is ready to hand the leadership reigns over.   Our team will start spreading the word that we will be looking to fill leadership roles in the CH board.

8.       Kevin suggested we create CH Bylaws.  He will gather some together and present them to our team next meeting.  Thanks again Kevin.

9.       Treasurer’s Report:  We have $8061.21

10.   Cheryl has 500 envelopes that she and Kevin made for us to distribute to churches so that they can include them as part of the offering.  Thanks Cheryl.

11.   KOKO Radio personality Craig Hassler decided to help CH by running in a Triathlon (date TBA).  He also stated that he would help CH get the word out on the radio to help raise awareness on our team’s role and function to our community.

12.   Website Update:  Kevin and Chuck are working on updating the website.  Mr.  Mudd said he would check with the school system to see if we can purchase website Creative Adobe Suite software.

13.   Tony emphasized the need to look for leaders and ask them to join our board so as to have a seamless transition once Penny steps down as President.
